About GHG Emissions, ISO 14064

ISO 14064 specifies principles and requirements for quantification and reporting of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and removals.

It is published in three parts:

ISO 14064-1: quantification and reporting of GHG emissions and removals at organisational level, including requirements for the design, development, management, reporting and verification of an organization’s GHG inventory.
ISO 14064-2: provides guidance at the project level for quantification, monitoring and reporting of activities intended to for GHG emission reductions or removal enhancements.
ISO 14064-3: provides guidance for conducting or managing the validation and/or verification of GHG assertions.

ISO 14064 standard provides government agencies, regulatory authority, businesses and organisations with a set of tools to quantify, monitor, report and verify GHG emissions.

Why it matters

Verification and validation of organisations’ GHG emissions and GHG projects to ISO 14064-1 and ISO 14064-2:

Gives assurance to stakeholders of the quantum of emission reductions achieved by the organsiation in a specified period.
Gives confidence to stakeholders that implemented GHG projects will achieve the projected emission reductions.
Reinforces the robust disclosure mechanisms of organisations to communicate their environmental, social and governance (ESG) activities to their customers and stakeholders
Reduces costs of conducting and verifying their GHG inventory
